The 5 Keys for Successful Career Academies were developed and published in 1998. Based on career academy research and practice, these 5 Keys will insure your academies make progress quickly. They are also adaptable to small learning communities and freshmen academies.
Application for "Beacon School" designation. If your school shows mastery of all 5 Keys for Successful Career Academies, you can earn the designation. This is the highest honor NEP gives to a school.

Application for "School of Promise" designation. If your school shows proficiency with at least two of the 5 Keys for Successful Career Academies, you can earn the designation.

The School Restructuring Self-Assessment Instrument is a tool to help your staff identify common goals and create a plan to achieve them in relation to redesigning your school into small learning communities or career academies. It does not take the place of The Initial Needs Assessment (TINA), but it is a good start.
